Sympathies to the Angels and the family of LHP Tyler Skaggs. The Angels’ pitcher was found dead in his hotel room in Texas. No cause of death revealed, but there is no indication of foul play or suicide. Tragic. He was just 27.

Yanks / Mets tonight at Citi Field. You just hope the Yanks are over the jet lag.

Yanks ppd. again; p/u a player; and the minor league report.

Yankee Stadium Frieze

Rain, Rain,, go away. For the second straight night, the Yanks were ppd. This game will be made up as the first game of a separate admission/day-night DH on August 12.

Meanwhile, the Yanks made a move, picking up 1b/dh Kendrys Morales from the A’s in exchange for cash or a player to be named later. In order to open a spot on the 40-man roster, New York transferred righty Jonathan Loaisiga from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day injured list. Meaning we would not see him again until probably late July.

I am not sold on this move. Morales, 35, hit just .204-1-7 in 34 games for the A’s this year. OPS+ 61. A switch-hitter, he has hit .267 with 212 HR, OPS+ 112 in his MLB career, but I have to wonder how much is left in the tank. Last year he hit .249-21-57 for Toronto in 130 games, OPS+ 113.

From MLBTR.com:

A followup MRI on the ailing right shoulder of Yankees third baseman Miguel Andujar revealed little to no changes in his shoulder from the April MRI that initially revealed a small labrum tear, manager Aaron Boone told reporters Tuesday afternoon (Twitter links via James Wagner of the New York Times and Bryan Hoch of MLB.com). Andujar, according to Boone, has been encouraged to discuss the situation with his family and will spend the next day or so mulling his options. Season-ending surgery is still on the table, it seems.

The update from Boone comes just a day after Andujar was placed back on the 10-day injured list following a brief return to the active roster. Andujar missed the entire month of April and a few games early in May before returning on May 4 to go 3-for-34 (all singles) with one walk and nine strikeouts. While both Andujar and the team had hoped that the small nature of the tear would allow him to play through the injury, that poor showing has cast further doubt on his ability to do so.

Yanks add Joe Harvey to 40 man roster, make a minor deal.

Yankee Stadium Frieze

From the NY Post:

The Yankees added right-hander Joe Harvey to their 40-man roster on Tuesday. The 26-year-old split 2018 between Double-A Trenton and Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.  ….  The team’s 40-man roster is now at 39 in advance of next month’s Rule 5 draft. The Yankees also acquired minor league RHP Jefry Valdez from Colorado in exchange for RHP Jordan Foley.

Harvey turns 27 in January, and the Post actually had his numbers (deleted above) wrong. He was 3-2, 1.67 with 11 saves between AA/AAA.

Foley, 25, who probably wouldn’t have been protected from the Rule 5 draft, was traded to get something for him instead. He went 4-4, 2.98 at AA Trenton with 10 saves but was 0-2, 9.15 in the recently concluded Arizona Fall League.

Valdez, 23, went 3-1, 5.82 at Low A.

Keppinger, Francis sign. Phils make trade.

Utility man Jeff Keppinger, at times linked to the Yanks, signed with the Rays.

Now for the Yanks to get to business on Eric Chavez.

Jeff Francis, once the Rockies ace, signed a minor league deal with the Reds.

The Phils traded Wilson (Exxon) Valdez to the Reds for lefty pitcher Jeremy Horst. It’s a bit surprising considering the recent injuries to Utley, Polanco and Rollins.

The minors

AA:  Trenton took a 4-3 lead into the bottom of the 10th, but blew it. 5-4. Jose Valdez gave up 2 runs on 3 hits and a walk, getting just 2 outs. How did Trenton go ahead in the top of the 10th? A Jesus Montero HR. Earlier in the game, Austin Krum HRd.

A+ DH. Game 1 6-4 Tampa. Matt Cusick 3 hits, RBI. Damon Sublett and Brandon Laird each had 2 hits and an RBI. Venditte 2 scoreless, 3 K, the save.

Game 2. 2-1 Tampa in 11. Ryan Zink 1 R in 5 IP. Phil Bartleski 3 scoreless ip, 7 K. Dave Adams 11th inning HR the game-winner. Cusick 3 for 3.

The minors today.

I was asked at a Yankee fan club meeting tonight about Switch-pitcher Pat Venditte. I replied that Venditte was doing very well at low A Charleston. I pulled the stats out and was surprised at how well.

Consider this:

1-1, ERA 0.00.

In 10 games, 11 2/3 IP, he has given up 2 runs, both unearned.

Here is the kicker. 21 K in 11 2/3 IP. NO WALKS. Repeat. NO WALKS.
